ST. LOUIS, October 7, 2010 – Advantage Capital Partners, a leading venture capital and small business finance firm, is proud to announce that its senior managing director Scott A. Zajac has been named to the Smurfit-Stone Entrepreneurial Alumni Hall of Fame at Saint Louis University. Zajac was awarded the prestigious honor in the category of “Entrepreneurship Champion” this weekend at a ceremony and luncheon at SLU’s John Cook School of Business.
Ellen Harshman, Ph.D., J.D., dean of SLU’s John Cook School of Business, noted that each of the honorees represent the University’s ongoing commitment to business excellence and serving others. “Through their inspirational personal and professional achievements, each of the nominees represents the SLU ideal of collaboration to build strong businesses, individuals and communities,” Harshman said.
Leading the Missouri office of Advantage Capital Partners, Scott Zajac has tirelessly focused on providing growth capital and other investments to small businesses through state and local public private partnerships and economic development policies. The firm’s typical forms of investment include early stage, expansion equity, mezzanine financing, senior and subordinated loans and government-guaranteed lending. During Zajac’s tenure, Advantage Capital has partnered with its portfolio companies to create more than 15,000 jobs nationwide, and firm investments have resulted in more than $6 billion in follow-on capital in communities that need it most.
Zajac is a seasoned investment professional with more than 20 years of experience in real estate finance, venture capital, small business lending and investment banking. He has received numerous awards for his work with entrepreneurs, and he frequently serves as a panelist and speaker at economic development and community based investment conferences. In 2007, Zajac was named Financial Services Champion of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s St. Louis District.
Zajac has also played a leadership role in securing the redevelopment of an historic building for the benefit of children and families in need. As a Board Member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri (BBBSEMO), Zajac used his knowledge of complex financing structures to guide a landmark urban preservation project, which is now the program’s flagship facility. Zajac’s unwavering commitment to the children and families of BBBSEMO has helped the organization develop into what it is today.
Zajac is vice president of the Missouri Venture Capital Association and a member of the Missouri Venture Forum. He serves as Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, sits on the board of Missouri Families for Effective Autism Treatment and is involved with other charitable and civic organizations. Nationally, he is a member of the Treasury Management Association, the National Venture Capital Association, the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies, the Community Development Venture Capital Alliance, Entrepreneurs’ Organization, the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO-WPO) and several other professional and trade organizations.
