Mason Manufacturing Case Study

Mason Manufacturing is a leading producer of high quality heat exchanges, dryers and vessels for major national and international clients in a wide range of industries, including biotechnology, biofuels, grain processing, chemical, petroleum power and water treatment. The 60-year old company is located in Decatur, Illinois.

Since May 2010, Mason Manufacturing has received a total of $8.3 million in funding from Advantage Capital Partners. The funding was raised in connection with the federal New Markets Development program and the Illinois New Markets Development Program. Both programs are designed to stimulate economic growth in communities that historically have been underserved by traditional sources of capital.

Current owners Ty and Jad Mason were introduced to Advantage Capital when the original owners were looking to transition the business to a new generation of leadership. The funding provided growth and liquidity capital. Since the initial funding, the new owners have made significant operational changes, enhancing both business and management structures. They have also retained 35 employees and hired 20 new employees in a severely distressed census tract with an 18% unemployment rate.
